16 May 2008 at 08.20AEST: USD rose against the Euro following the optimism on potential deals in the US sharemarket - Euro fell from early strength and highs around US$1.5520 to below US$1.5425 ending US trade near US$1.5460 - AUD rallied from lows near US93.30c in early European trade to around US94.20c and ending US trade near US94.15c - JPY traded between 104.45 yen per US dollar to JPY105.20 and ending US trade near JPY104.60 - The Dow Jones rose by 94pts or 0.7pct after lifting 161pts at one stage - The Nasdaq rose by 37pts or 1.5pct to a four month high - US 10yr yields fell 10pts to 3.82 pct while US 2yr yields fell by 10pts to 2.44pct. Crude oil prices fell after Iran assured it had no plans to cut exports - Base metal prices rose on the LME on Wednesday as the earthquake in China increased concerns on supply - price of gold rallied following strong physical buying in Asia.
