Michael Blythe - Chief Economist - BEc (Hons)
Michael is currently the Chief Economist for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. In this role he is responsible for monitoring, analysing, and forecasting trends in the Australian economy, financial markets and domestic monetary policy. Michael joined the Commonwealth Bank in late 1995 as the Senior Economist in the Bank's economic research division. Prior to this he spent 13 years in various roles within the Economic Group of the Reserve Bank of Australia including a role at the International Monetary Fund. Michael was the Reserve Bank's Senior Economist from 1991-1995 with responsibility for the provision of economic analysis and policy advice.

Michael Workman - Senior Economist - BEc (Hons) LLB SIA (Dipl)
Michael has been actively involved in financial markets for 20 years. His main role at the Commonwealth Bank is to communicate trends in the Australian and overseas economies and financial markets to clients, and the likely effect on interest rates and the Australian dollar. He takes a particular interest in the different growth patterns between the Australian States and regions. He has been with the Commonwealth Bank for 16 years, most of those in the financial markets area. Prior to moving into the private sector Michael held positions with the New South Wales Government in their Treasury’s revenue and tax policy sections. He was also an investment analyst with the NSW public sector superannuation investment group. Michael has lectured on topics related to financial markets for the Securities Institute of Australia Diploma course.

John Peters - Senior Economist - BEc
John is responsible for communicating the Bank's views on trends in the Australian and international economies as well as the likely effect on the financial markets, including interest rates and currency markets. Prior to joining the Commonwealth Bank in 2003, John spent eight years as Senior Economist in Westpac Financial Markets. Previously he worked as Chief Economist at CIBC Australia and Senior Economist with Midland International Australia Ltd. John was in the public sector in the Commonwealth Treasury and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet between 1974 and 1980. In the early 1980s, he worked as a journalist on the Australian Financial Review. John has been involved in financial markets for almost 20 years.

James McIntyre - Economist - BEc (Hons)
James is responsible for monitoring, analysing and forecasting trends in the Australian economy, including in financial markets and domestic monetary policy. James joined the Commonwealth Bank in August 2008. Prior to this James worked in the Commonwealth Treasury, focussing on developments in the domestic and international economies. James provided forecasting and analysis on developments in the Australian economy, advised on monetary policy and led Treasury's analysis of the Australian housing sector, including housing affordability measures. James also coordinated Treasury's Business Liaison Program. Prior to this, James prepared forecasts and analysis of the global economy and risks, financial markets, oil and commodities, and the Chinese and US economies. James holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree from James Cook University, has tutored in economics at the Australian National University and has completed Level 3 of the Chartered Financial Analyst program.

Richard Grace - Chief Currency Strategist - MEc
Richard is responsible for all research and forecasting of foreign exchange rates for the Commonwealth Bank. Richard joined the Commonwealth Bank in July 2005. He has more than 15 years work experience as both an economist and currency strategist. Richard's work experience includes two years in London as a macroeconomist and currency strategist for West Deutsche Landesbank (WestLB). He has also worked as a research economist at the Asia Pacific Research Institute at Macquarie University between 1993 and 1996 and holds both a Bachelor and Master of Economics from Macquarie University.

Joseph Capurso - Currency Strategist - BEc (Hons)
Joseph is currently a currency strategist in the Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s currency research team. In this role he is involved in monitoring and forecasting trends in Australian and foreign economies and drawing implications for currencies. Prior to his current role, Joseph was an economist in the Bank’s research team. Joseph was also a columnist with the Business Review Weekly. Joseph joined the Commonwealth Bank in 2005 from the economic division of the Prime Minister’s Department. Prior to these roles, Joseph was the forecasting economist at specialist economic modellers, Econtech. Joseph started his career in Treasury’s international and macro-economic divisions. Joseph has been analysing and forecasting economies for over ten years.

Sara is responsible for assisting the Commodities and Currency strategists to monitor and analyse trends in the Australian and International economies and developments in financial markets. Sara has recently joined the research team from a graduate position in retail banking.

Adam Donaldson - Head of Debt Market Research - BEc, BA (Hons) MBA
Adam is the Debt Market Strategist, located in Sydney. His analysis focuses on economic and financial market issues that impact the debt markets. Adam joined the Commonwealth Bank in March 2006 following two years as Senior Economist with UBS Investment Bank in Sydney, where he was responsible for economic, fixed income research and forecasting. He was previously Senior Economist for the Treasury Corporation of Victoria in Melbourne for more than eight years and spent three years with the Commonwealth Government in Canberra. He has economics and arts (International Relations) degrees from the Flinders University of South Australia and has completed an MBA at Melbourne Business School.

Jarrod Kerr – Senior Fixed Income Strategist - B. Applied Econ (Hons), MBS
Jarrod is the Senior Fixed Income Strategist, located in Sydney. Jarrod’s research focuses on the economic and financial market events that impact the debt markets. Jarrod joined the Commonwealth Bank in April 2008 following four years as an Economist with JPMorgan Investment Bank in Sydney, where he was responsible for economic, fixed income research and forecasting. He was previously Research Manager for the Securities Industry Research Centre of Asia-Pacific for 3 years and spent two years as a lecturer at Massey University in Auckland. Jarrod has an applied economics degree (Hons) and a MBS (double major in finance and economics) from Massey University New Zealand.

David Moore - Chief Commodity Strategist - BEc, Graduate Diploma in Econometrics
David's focus is on metals and oil and is involved in monitoring, analysing and forecasting trends in the major non-ferrous metals including aluminium, copper, lead, nickel and zinc, as well as gold and oil. David has almost twenty-five years experience in economic and financial market research. David worked for the Commonwealth Bank from 1983 to 2002, spending time as an industry analyst and also working in financial and foreign exchange markets, then worked for the ASX until early 2007 before rejoining the Commonwealth Bank.

Luke Mathews - Commodity Strategist - B.Agr.Ec. (Hon)
Luke is responsible for monitoring, analysing and forecasting trends for the major agricultural commodities. Luke joined Commonwealth Bank in September 2008. Prior to this Luke worked within Westpac Agribusiness, followed by 18 months in recycled water business development and strategy at Hunter Water Corporation. Luke holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Economics (Honours) degree from Sydney University.

Steve is responsible for analysis of Australian corporate bonds and hybrid securities. Steve joined the Commonwealth Bank in 2006 and has eight years experience as an equities analyst for Salomon Smith Barney and Credit Suisse First Boston and four years experience as a senior risk manager within Citigroup.

Tally Dewan - Quantitative Research Analyst - BEc (Hons), MEc
Tally is responsible for modelling fair values and developing trading strategies of fixed income products. She is also responsible for evaluating structured products. Tally joined the Debt and Credit Research team in February 2008, following two and half years as a quantitative analyst in the Quantitative and Investment Strategy team within the bank. Prior to joining the Commonwealth Bank, Tally has worked in World Bank - Bangladesh and North-South University, Bangladesh.

Aaron is responsible for development and automation of quantitative models and research publications for the Debt and Credit team. Aaron joined the Commonwealth Bank in 2006 and is completing his Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Winnie Chee - Structured Finance Analyst - BSc (Statistics and Mathematics), M.Applied Finance
Winnie specialises in Structured Finance which encompasses residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities (RMBS/CMBS), credit-linked notes and other structured credit products. Prior to joining Commonwealth Bank, Winnie worked as a Research Analyst at Moodys Investors Service.

Ai-Quynh Mac - Information Services - Technical Assistant
Ai-Quynh has been with the Commonwealth Bank since 1987. She has worked as a Personal Assistant in various Departments prior to joining Global Markets Research. Ai-Quynh provides a wide range of invaluable administrative and financial & statistical support to the group including development and preparation of external presentations & publications produced by the Commonwealth Research group. Ai-Quynh also provides backup support to our Research Publisher /Webmaster.

Monica Eley - Webmaster/Research Publisher - BA, DipEd
Monica joined Commonwealth Research in September 1997 & is currently responsible for maintaining the Research Website. She also maintains Research on 11 different Internet/Intranets/Portals. She co-ordinates Global Markets research publications & distribution of our major Research. She was assistant project manager for the re-development of the new Research Website. Prior to joining the Commonwealth Bank, Monica worked in IT at Macquarie Bank, marketing at Coopers & Lybrand & spent 15 years in the computer graphic industry in areas of production & design. She has also worked in the NSW Education Dept as a secondary teacher.

Nicola Chadwick - International Economist (London) - BCom (Hons)
Nicola is based in London and is responsible for communicating views on trends in the Australian and New Zealand economies to the Bank's European investor base. She is also involved in G7 economic research, with particular focus on monetary policy. This provides a global backdrop to the Australasian team's domestic economic and strategic research. Before moving to London, Nicola worked for four years as the Commonwealth Bank's Economist in Auckland.

Chris Tennent-Brown - Economist (New Zealand) - BComm
Chris is based in Auckland. In this role he is involved in monitoring, analysing, and forecasting trends in the New Zealand economy, financial markets and domestic monetary policy. Chris obtained a Bachelor of Commence degree at Auckland University, majoring in economics. Prior to joining the Commonwealth Bank, Chris worked in the funds management industry, for Bankers Trust, BT Funds Management and ASB Group Investments. Chris has 10 years experience in finance.

The Equities Research team analyses Australian listed companies in order to provide CommSec's institutional and retail clients with advice on their equity investment decisions. The team adopts an industry economics approach to understanding companies, complementing this with financial models to arrive at company valuations. We cover the larger listed companies, particularly the largest 100 listed stocks on the ASX and our emerging companies team cover those companies outside of the ASX 100. Equities Research also provides research support for other parts of the Bank, including other teams in Global Markets, Institutional Banking and Equity Solutions.

Craig James - Chief Equities Economist - M.Com BEc (Economics-UNSW)
Craig’s current role is Chief Equities Economist, Commonwealth Securities, interpreting ‘big picture’ economic and financial trends for customers, clients and staff. This analysis is also provided to the general public through a range of media commitments. His current duties include presentations to staff and clients, commentaries on economic matters for the media, production of regular and ad hoc commentaries and topical reports of market interest. In 2002, Craig undertook a ‘sea change’, interpreting economic and financial trends for the Australian Financial Review. Prior to this he held Chief Economist posts at both Colonial and Commonwealth Securities. Craig has worked in banking, finance and journalism for 27 years. He holds both Bachelor and Master degrees in Commerce (Economics). Both degrees were undertaken at University of NSW.

Savanth is responsible for analysis of economic trends in the Australian and global economy, as well as the likely impact on equity markets. His previous role at the bank focused on trading international equities and derivatives.

Peter Ephraums - Senior Banking and Insurance Analyst - BEc
Before joining CommSec Peter was leading a small team responsible for preparing industry analysis at National Australia Bank. This work, which had a strong credit focus, was used as an input for developing the Corporate Banking divisions marketing approach to a range of different industries. Prior to joining the NAB, Peter gained experience in stockbroking at ANZ Securities (1996-1998) and in funds management at BT Australia where he worked as an analyst in the Australian Equities team (1987 to 1995).

Before joining CommSec Andrew was a research analyst at Bridges Institutional Broking, specialising in insurance and diversified financials. Prior to this Andrew spent ten years working in the insurance industry, starting at Royal SunAlliance before moving to QBE and then SwissRe. During his time in the insurance industry Andrew was a member of the various actuarial departments, working on both the pricing and reserving side. Andrew is a member of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

Before joining CommSec Miriam worked as an analyst for Dresdner Kleinwort in London, covering the Healthcare sector. Prior to this Miriam spent 2 years at Henderson Global Investors in London working as a Quant Analyst in the Equity Strategy team. Miriam began her career as a graduate with AMP and worked with them as a performance and risk analyst in both Sydney and London. Pieter Bruinstroop - Head of Basic Materials and Energy Equity Research

Pieter is the Team Leader for Basic Materials and Energy Equity Research at CommSec. Before joining CommSec, Pieter was the Resources Analyst at Ord Minnett for 2 years where his focus was on small to mid cap mining companies. Pieter was a fund manager for nearly 10 years. The last 3 years he was based in Singapore and was responsible for all Basic Materials and Energy in the Asia Pacific ex Japan region as well as all of Australia and New Zealand. In this position, Pieter’s portfolio returned 230% in US$ terms, compared with 157% for the ASX Materials index and 95% for the MSCI Australia. Before going to Singapore, Pieter worked as the Resources Analyst at Balanced Equity Management in Melbourne for nearly 7 years where, despite being in an under-performing sector, Pieter added 2% over the ASX 50 Leaders index. Before becoming a fund manager, Pieter worked in the Aluminium industry for 7 years.

Rob joined CommSec in October 2007as a Metals Analyst responsible for copper, gold nickel and zinc equities research. Rob has worked as a geologist in mining and exploration roles in Western Australia and Victoria including 4 years with the Gutnick group of companies as a Senior Geologist responsible for statutory reporting and expenditure analysis. Before joining CommSec, Rob was the Senior Mining Tenement Manager for Tenement Administration Services advising clients on mining, exploration and regulatory issues within Australia.

Andrew Knuckey - Minerals Analyst - MBAFin, GradDipMGT, Assoc Dip Min Mineral Tech, Aust Mine Managers (WA & QLD) statutory certificates of competency
Andrew joins CommSec in August 2008 as the Minerals Analyst responsible for coal, iron ore, uranium and other equities research. Andrew graduated from the Western Australian School of Mines - Curtin University in 1989 and worked in a variety of mining environments in WA including gold, iron ore and manganese. In 1996 Andrew moved to the Central Queensland coalfields with Shell Coal and then Anglo Coal working for 10 years in various technical and operational mining engineering roles including five years as mine manager. During this time he contributed significantly to increasing productivity, safety and profits of firstly the Callide mine and then German Creek open cut mine, before taking on the operational Management and early development of the Dawson mine. Most recently Andrew worked for three years based in London as part of Anglo American PLC global corporate Sustainable Development and Coal Business Development areas.

Lachlan joined CommSec in November 2007 as a Commodities Analyst responsible for industry analysis, research and price projections across a range of metal and bulk mining commodities. Prior to joining CommSec, Lachlan worked for 6 years as an economist at Department of the Treasury in Australia where his responsibilities included analysis and forecasting of the Australian economy, including the non-rural commodity sector. Lachlan co-authored ‘Mining and Commodity Exports’ in the Treasury Round-up in Spring 2005. Prior to joining the Treasury, Lachlan held equity analyst roles at boutique equity capital market and research firm ECM Limited and, prior to that, HSBC Securities Limited.

Cassandra Meagher - Senior Industrials Analyst

Cassandra joined CommSec Equities Research team in June 2006. Prior to this Cassandra worked at RailCorp as a Senior Consultant with responsibilities for strategy, transformation, change management and project management. She has had various other roles in rail – as Policy Manager at the Strategic Rail Authority in the UK from 2001-03, as an Economist/Market analyst at Rail Services Australia and the Rail Infrastructure Corporation and as Senior Research Officer at the Productivity Commission. Cassandra holds a Master of Commerce (Economics) degree from the University of Melbourne and her undergraduate degree was in Agricultural and Resource Economics (Honours) from La Trobe University. She has also studied utility regulation in the UK, six sigma with SAI Global and is an accredited project manager with AIPM.

Adrian Lemme - Lead Industrials Analyst - B.Math Fin (Hons), CFA
Adrian has had various finance roles within the Commonwealth Bank since joining in 2003. These include being part of the financial review team for projects under the Which New Bank program. He most recently worked in the funding function of Group Treasury which involved issuance and management of the Bank's long term debt portfolio. In 2004 Adrian worked as an Analyst within CommSec's Banking and Insurance team. Adrian holds a Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (Honours) degree from the University of Wollongong. He is a CFA charterholder.

Craig Shepherd - Senior Media and Gaming Analyst - PhD (Monash)
Craig was previously a consultant with the National Institute of Economic Research, a consultancy based in Melbourne. He has consulted extensively to government on the gaming industry. He has also consulted to the toll road industry on modelling traffic flows and bidding for infrastructure. Craig has also co-authored a leading publication on the economic progress of Australia's regions. Craig has a PhD degree in Econometrics from Monash University.

Prior to joining the Healthcare team, she covered stocks in the Utilities and Infrastructure sector as well as the Consumer Discretionary sector. Natalie joined CommSec after 3 years in the Mergers and Acquisitions branch at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission where she assessed whether transactions would breach the Trade Practices Act 1974. Natalie holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree majoring in economics and a Masters of Commerce degree (specialising in economics).

Sean Cooney - Head of Emerging Companies - BA (UNSW) MAppFin (Macquarie) CFA
Sean joined CommSec in March 2006. Sean has 19 years in the financial industry, 12 years in broking and funds management beginning in 1987. In 1993, Sean joined ANZ McCaughan and was a founding member of the Small Cap research team which was ranked number 2 in Australia. In mid 1996, Sean took over coverage of the Building Materials sector until late 1998. In 1999, Sean was Portfolio Manager at a start up Next Financial before moving to San Francisco. In the USA he helped found the ANZA Technology Network (5,000 members) and established an internet company specialising in the distribution of online advertising. Upon returning to Australia he joined the Commonwealth Bank and was appointed Head of Research in commercial banking.

Danny Younis - Senior Emerging Companies Analyst - B.Sc (Syd), GradDip (FINSIA)
Danny joined CommSec in October 2007. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Sydney, with majors in Molecular Genetics and the Philosophy of Science. He has also completed the FINSIA's Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment. Danny started his career spending 4 years in the wine industry with Sheargold's Fine Wine Merchants, before 10 years experience in the film and entertainment industry, primarily as National Sales Manager of Becker Group Ltd, which incorporated financial forecasting and analysis of various investments in strategic projects (eg. Dendy Cinemas). He then joined the institutional stockbroker CCZ Statton Equities in 2000 as a Senior Analyst covering Small Caps, Media, and Transport. In 2002 he joined Aegis Equities, Australia's largest independent equities research house, where he covered Beverages, Transport, Developers & Contractors, and Building Materials. In 2004 Danny joined Westpac's Corporate & Institutional Banking team as an Associate Director, with direct responsibility of the Global Food & Beverages sector, with clients as diverse as Louis Vuitton Moët-Hennessy, Foster's, Lion Nathan, Coca-Cola Amatil, San Miguel, Nestlé, Constellation Brands, Pernod Ricard, Goodman Fielder and Fortune Brands (Jim Beam). Deals worked on include Foster's $3.7b acquisition of Southcorp, Nestlé’s $890m purchase of Uncle Toby’s, and San Miguel’s $1.9b takeover of National Foods and Berri. He has also worked as a published freelance writer / critic on film, wine and fashion.

Paul comes from Vodafone where he has been regulatory manager for the last three years. He was responsible for managing regulatory matters affecting Vodafone including mobile termination rates, cost modelling and regulatory analysis. He was involved in negotiations with commercial partners, Government and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. Prior to that, he spent five years as a senior regulatory analyst at Powercor where he was involved in modelling, regulatory analysis and negotiations with Government and regulators. He started his career at the energy reform division of the Victorian Government during the privatisation era and the formation of the national energy market.
