24 December 2008 - AEST 8.30am - Major currencies were becalmed in thin European and US trade on Tuesday - European sharemarkets were mixed - US sharemarkets limped into Christmas with modest declines - Crude oil prices fell again - Base metal prices were generally lower - And the price of gold also eased as investors retreated from commodities.
